Can a Community Create Its Future?

If you don’t try to create the future you want, you must endure the future you get. – John Maxwell

In the fall of 2013 the Chisago Lakes Area Community Foundation and the Chisago Lakes Chamber teamed up with community members to help define the future of our Chisago Lakes Area from Chisago City to Taylors Falls.

The New Richmond Community Foundation guided us in a process they called Future Walk. Our goal was to interview 1000 residents, business owners and employees who live and work in the Chisago Lakes School District.

By the end of 2015 we had interviewed over 700 people.

What do we ask in the survey?

We ask you what makes our area unique, why do you live here and what are your desires for the future 5,10 or 20 years from now.

What will we do with the data?

We will summarize the information and present it to community leaders, city councils, county leaders, school leaders and then work to achieve some of the goals of the residents.

Do I need to come to a meeting?

Most of our interviews have been conducted in person, but we recently created an online version (see link below) for people who are unable to come to a meeting. We hope to reach 1000 with this format. We are happy to meet with groups upon request.

Do I have to give my name?

NO, but if you do, we will add your name to our banner with 1000 names on it. Your data will not be connected to your name.

We encourage everyone age 18 or older to take the time to help create the future you imagine for yourself, your children or your grandchildren.
